Job Title: Merchandising Manager
Location: Remote, work from home in the US or UK only
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours)

What’s the Job?

We’re looking for an experienced Merchandising Manager to join Uplift Games. In this role you will own the creation of merchandise as a discipline for Adopt Me and Uplift Games. You will seek out and create new partnerships, working with our leadership and operations teams to create a variety of awesome consumer products our players will love. You’ll build and maintain our Merchandising roadmap, ensuring it stays in sync with game updates, product strategy and changes in the market. This role will be pivotal in generating new revenue sources and deepening our players’ already deep connection with the game they love.

It is essential that you value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC / BAME, and disability-positive team, and you will be an active supporter of all team members.

This is a remote position open to candidates who are based in the US or UK and can demonstrate eligibility to work in those countries.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Understand trends and best practices to build and deliver an effective Merchandise roadmap, helping seek out and identify opportunities for Adopt Me products.
  • Set regional strategies by creating regional prioritising frameworks and linking this to the merchandise roadmap.
  • Instigate and lead discussions with potential partners, driving negotiations to get great outcomes for Uplift Games and partners.
  • Manage third party agencies and hold them accountable for delivering content, marketing plans, and any reporting or monitoring we need as a business.
  • Analyze internal data, market research, and industry trends to create better, more engaging and more successful consumer products.
  • Analyse trends and report on performance KPIs, sales performance, site performance, and key metrics, with a view to identifying key issues and actions needed to improve sales and conversion.
  • Align on product capabilities and drive innovation to create an immersive experience for our millions of players, and entirely new consumers.
  • Understand the complexities of working with relevant stakeholders including development, legal, and finance to support projects from initial contact through to execution.
  • Manage a deal from start-to-finish, working to identify the opportunities, build the business case, gain approval from the relevant stakeholders, and execute the deal.
  • Set up our d2c online merchandise shop, ensuring it’s best in class for our target audiences.
  • Effectively liaise with Marketing, Product and other relevant departments to roll out digital campaigns that promote our merchandising initiatives along with tracking, attribution and revenue reporting.
  • Maintain a network of relationships across the industry with partners, potential partners, competitors, and innovators in the space.
  • Be an ambassador for Uplift Games in any external dealings, embodying our values.

Your Background

These are the things candidates really should have but can make up for in other areas. If you’re missing one or two, consider applying anyway, especially if you belong to a marginalized group.

  • 4+ years games industry experience.
  • 4+ years experience of merchandise management and distribution.
  • Proven track record of retail instincts and analytical abilities.
  • Strong sense of teamwork and cooperative spirit, giving and receiving help when necessary.
  • Active market intelligence with a network of connections across the industry.
  • Highly detailed and organised with a proactive work ethic.
  • Willingness to travel to meet potential partners as needed (pending safety and covid requirements), attend trade shows and events.
  • A data-driven approach with regards to forecasting and planning.
  • Experience working with teams remotely across multiple international time zones, both synchronously (e.g on call) and asynchronously (e.g over written communication).

Bonus Points

These are things that can improve your candidacy, but none of these are necessary to apply.

  • Comfortable with contracts and commercial agreements; experience across a range of deal types (publishing, licencing, etc) would be preferred.
  • Experience working on products for young audiences.
  • Experience working in small, rapidly scaling teams with a focus on merchandising.
  • Experience formally line managing others (this is not a managerial position, but there is scope to grow the team based on success).
  • Experience with UGC or “Metaverse” platforms.
  • Knowledge of regional differences between UK and US work and local cultures.
