Job Title: Head of Business Development
Location: Remote, work from home in the US or UK only
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours)

What’s the Job?

Adopt Me is a top game on the Roblox platform (Mobile / PC / Xbox) with over 60 Million players logging in each month. With 1 in 4 US kids 9-12 playing, Adopt Me is not only the cutest pet adoption roleplay game on Roblox but also one of the most significant social experiences for this next generation. We are a small team with a huge community, so to push the limits of scale and quality we are expanding our business development team.

We’re looking for an experienced Head of Business Development to join Uplift Games. In this role you will own business development as a discipline for Adopt Me and future products. You will be seeking out and creating new business opportunities and partnerships, working with our leadership team to make them a reality. You will play a key role in establishing a roadmap for our business development strategy, helping to provide results that align with our overall roadmap. This role will be pivotal in generating new revenue sources for the company in a way we haven’t explored before.

It is essential that you value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC / BAME, and disability-positive team, and you will be an active supporter of all team members.

This is a remote position open to candidates who are based in the US or UK and can demonstrate eligibility to work in those countries.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop and deliver our Business Development roadmap, helping seek out and identify partnership opportunities for both Adopt Me and Uplift Games.
  • Instigate and lead discussions with potential partners.
  • Drive negotiations to get great outcomes for Uplift Games and partners.
  • Effectively prioritise opportunities based on ROI and fit with corporate strategy.
  • Understanding the complexities of working with relevant stakeholders including development, legal, and finance to support projects from initial contact through to execution.
  • Manage a deal from start-to-finish, working to identify the opportunities, build the business case, gain approval from the relevant stakeholders, and execute the deal.
  • Review and steer the drafting of commercial agreements.
  • Maintain a network of relationships across the industry with partners, potential partners, competitors, thought leaders.
  • Be an ambassador for Uplift Games in any external dealings, embodying our values.

Your Background

These are the things candidates really should have but can make up for in other areas. If you’re missing one or two, consider applying anyway, especially if you belong to a marginalized group.

  • 4+ years games industry experience (not necessarily in business development).
  • Proven track record of arranging, negotiating and closing deals.
  • Strong sense of teamwork and cooperative spirit, giving and receiving help when necessary.
  • Active market intelligence with a network of connections across the industry.
  • Highly detailed and organised with a proactive work ethic.
  • Willingness to travel to meet potential partners as needed (pending safety and covid requirements), attend trade shows and events.
  • Experience working with teams remotely across multiple international time zones, both synchronously (e.g on call) and asynchronously (e.g over written communication).

Bonus Points

These are things that can improve your candidacy, but none of these are necessary to apply.

  • Comfortable with contracts and commercial agreements; experience across a range of deal types (publishing, licencing, etc) would be preferred
  • Experience working on products for young audiences.
  • Experience with UGC or “Metaverse” platforms.
  • Knowledge of regional differences between UK and US work and local cultures.
