Job Title: Animator
Location: Remote, work from home in the US or UK only
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours)

What’s the Job?

We’re looking for an animator to join our Creative team. You will show strong skills in creating both 2D and 3D animations, using your great knowledge of games development. You will have a can-do attitude and be eager to learn new methods and techniques to achieve great results. You will work closely with other team members and departments, ensuring ideas are professionally presented and realised in-game.

It is essential that you value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalized groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC / BAME, and disability-positive team, and you will be an active supporter of all team members.

This is a remote position open to candidates who are based in the US or UK and can demonstrate eligibility to work in those countries.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Work with your lead artist to get fully behind the artistic vision of the project.
  • Translate concept and reference artwork into high quality game animation, meeting the quality standards yet respecting the design, artistic style, and performance requirements.
  • Follow animation pipelines, workflows, and performance budgets to achieve the projects desired visuals with minimal feedback.
  • Create and/or modify in-game 2D/3D animations within a given timeframe.
  • Verify the quality of animations in game and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints and artistic direction.
  • Solve problems within your area of expertise on your assigned projects.
  • Actively participate to help make improvements to work methods and pipelines.
  • Mentor and help develop other more junior animators on the team.

Your Background

These are the things candidates really should have but can make up for in other areas. If you’re missing one or two, consider applying anyway, especially if you belong to a marginalized group.

  • Strong knowledge of the video game development process and production pipelines.
  • Able to work effectively with different animation styles.
  • Knowledge of implementing animation in Unity, Unreal or similar engines.
  • Skills in animation software packages such as Maya, After Effects and Aseprite,
  • Experience in developing for console and mobile hardware, with an understanding of platform limitations, memory, and performance.
  • A strong understanding of animation fundamentals.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D character animation in Maya.
  • A passion for video games, art, and commitment to personal development.
  • Working knowledge of source control software.
  • A creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills and a teamwork-oriented attitude.
  • Positive and outgoing personality with a can-do mindset and be able to adapt based on feedback.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • You value diversity and want to work alongside talented people from marginalised groups. We are explicitly a trans, LGBTQ+, BIPOC / BAME and disability positive team.

Bonus Points

These are things that can improve your candidacy, but none of these are necessary to apply.

  • Experience working with an international and/or remote team. We work across many time zones, using Slack and voice chat to communicate.
  • Experience working in the games industry
  • Experience with Roblox tools and community.
